The M.A. Program in Korean Studies is a joint international, interdisciplinary program between Chulalongkorn University (CU) and Seoul National University (SNU). In this day, political, economic, and cultural exchange among countries around the world, including Thailand, has become a norm through globalization. People are exposed to other political ideologies, market systems, products, and cultures rapidly and easily. As a result, influence by certain strong countries over others is inevitable, especially among those with geographical proximity. In Asia, Korea, Japan and China are the most influential. Their “soft power” tremendously impact Thai society and culture.
In Thailand, there is a strong interest in Korean culture or Korean Wave which is associated with entertainment industry, medical industry, and the business sector, result in the increase in the number of people interested in Korean culture and language. Also, there is an increasing number of Korean businesses in Thailand. However, there is still a lack of Thai people who are proficient in Korean language and aforementioned key aspects of Korea. As a result, the M.A. program in Korean Studies was created to meet these needs.
