Chula Hosts Royal Abhidhamma Chanting for Queen Sirikit’s Funeral

Chulalongkorn University served as the host of the Buddhist chanting ceremony of the Abhidhamma for the Royal Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Chulalongkorn University Council, presided over the ceremony. Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, along with council members, university executives, faculty representatives, and staff, attended the ceremony. 

On this occasion, Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai lit incense and candles in the ceremonial gold set in front of the royal urn and before the Buddha image corresponding to the day of Her Majesty’s birth and on the mother-of-pearl offering trays placed before the platform and the seats for the monks performing the Abhidhamma chanting on both the eastern and western sides. This was followed by the monks’ chanting of the Abhidhamma. 

Afterward, the Chairman of the University Council, the President, council members, and vice presidents offered robes to the monks. The monks performed the ritual of receiving offerings (sadapakon), followed by a water-pouring dedication ceremony. The Chairman of the University Council paid respects to the Buddha image corresponding to the day of Her Majesty’s birth and to the royal urn, after which attendees approached to pay their respects to the royal urn.
