Phra Kieo is a coronet worn by Thai princes and princesses. It became the emblem of Chulalongkorn University when King Rama VI, King Vajiravudh, named the university in memory of his father and the university’s founder, King Rama V. Chosen by King Rama V as his personal emblem, King Vajiravudh granted the Phra Kieo to be used as the emblem for the Civil Service College, which later became Chulalongkorn University. The Phra Kieo enshrined in the CU Memorial Hall is a replica made in 1976, upon the royal permission of King Rama IX, of the original housed in the Grand Palace. H.M. the King anointed the replica and graciously bestowed it to Chulalongkorn University during a graduation ceremony on July 13, 1989.
Chula is the place to discover one’s true individuality and the years I spent here were most enjoyable.
