Chula Media Fellowship Program

Opportunities to Connect with Chulalongkorn University’s Media Partners

Chulalongkorn University is accepting applications from journalists working with international and English-language media organizations for the Chula Media Fellowship Program. The program offers media professionals the opportunity to learn, exchange perspectives, and engage closely with students within the university community, while receiving financial support throughout the fellowship period.

The Origins of the Project

The Chula Media Fellowships program, managed by the International Relations Task Force of Chulalongkorn University’s Communications Center, aims to build strong relationships with the international media. The program invites journalists from global news organizations to engage directly with the university’s leading academics and experts, fostering an in-depth exchange of knowledge and perspectives across various fields.

Project Activities

Immersive Learning & Knowledge Exchange
Participants in the program may sit in on classes of interest alongside Chulalongkorn University students, providing an opportunity to experience the university’s teaching and learning environment firsthand while exchanging perspectives between the academic and media sectors.

Networking & Field Experience
Build networks with faculty members, researchers, and the Chulalongkorn University community through field visits to research and innovation projects, as well as participation in cultural activities, to foster long-term collaboration.

What You Will Learn

Participants may arrange their own class schedules and attend the university only on days when classes or activities are scheduled. They may choose to sit in on courses alongside Chulalongkorn University students in the following categories:

  • General Education (GenEd) Courses: Participants are encouraged to select at least one course.
  • Faculty Elective Courses: Participants may choose courses based on their interests from various faculties, such as the Faculty of Communication Arts, Faculty of Arts, or Faculty of Political Science.
  • Thai Language Courses: Courses are available through the Center for Thai as a Foreign Language, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

Participants may also attend lectures or join student club activities organized by various faculties. If participants wish to attend lectures or participate in club activities organized by different faculties, the Corporate Communications Center will be pleased to coordinate with the relevant faculties and instructors to facilitate their participation.

Funding Details

Participants will receive funding to attend a sit-in program for 6 months (January – June).

Monthly living allowance

  • Foreign journalists: 33,400 baht/month
  • Thai journalist: 16,700 baht/month

Tuition support grant

Tuition or registration fee support will be provided based on actual costs, up to a maximum of 40,000 baht per person.

Funding for field trips and/or activity participation fees

Support will be provided for participation in activities or field trips organized by Chulalongkorn University, up to a maximum of 30,000 baht per person.

  • The grant is provided as a non-refundable contribution with no obligation for repayment.
  • The Corporate Communications Center reserves the right to revoke the scholarship and terminate the participant’s status in the program if the recipient fails to enroll in or participate in program activities.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted once a year, from September to November (or until the date determined by the Corporate Communications Center).

Program Duration: January – June of each year

Applicant Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Applicants should be journalists affiliated with English-language or international media organizations, either in Thailand or abroad, and have at least one year of professional experience at the time of application. Applications are divided into the following categories:
    • Category A: Foreign journalists (non-Thai nationals)
    • Category B: Thai journalists (Thai citizens) affiliated with foreign news agencies or English-language media organizations
  2. Applicants should possess a good command of the English language 
  3. Approval has been obtained from their affiliated organization to participate in the program for the entire specified duration. 
  4. Participants are expected to take part in activities organized by Chulalongkorn University.
  5. Applicants must enroll in at least one General Education (GenEd) course and/or at least one course offered by a faculty or department of their choice.
  6. All participants must comply with the rules, regulations, and official requirements of both the Thai government and Chulalongkorn University throughout the program period.
  7. Please note that recipients may be responsible for expenses beyond the funding provided by the program, including international travel costs, travel insurance, visa application fees, domestic transportation expenses, and fees related to opening a bank account for grant disbursement.

Required Documents

All documents must be in English.

  1. A statement of purpose outlining the subjects and current issues related to Chulalongkorn University and Thailand that interest you, as well as your approach to communicating these topics to the public (maximum one A4 page).
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. A 1.5- or 2-inch passport-sized photograph taken within one year before the application deadline.
  4. Copy of national ID card or passport (for foreigners).
  5. Supervisor Acknowledgement Form

After the application period closes, Chulalongkorn University Communications Center will review all applications and announce the results on the Chulalongkorn University website. Applicants will also be notified via email.
