CUiHub Hosts “Chula Deep Tech Demo Day 2023” to Boost Deep Tech Startups

Chula Innovation Hub (CUiHub) held the “Chula Deep Tech Demo Day 2023” on October 16, 2023, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). The event was attended by over 500 investors from around the world. Ms. Suppamas Issarapakdee, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn, Chulalongkorn University’s President and delivered the opening speech. 

As a leader in academic excellence and promotion of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, Chulalongkorn University has been continuously pushing for a platform like Chula Deep-Tech Demo Day to boost the growth, collaboration, and ecosystem of Thai startups. The event featured research presentations by 9 start-up groups, namely Increbio, TannD, Hiveground, EngineLife, Baiya Phytopharm, Mineed technology, Nabsolute, CELLMIDI, and CrystalLyte, as well as a presentation on the policies and infrastructure provided by the government, associations, and business partners. In addition, Thai B2B Saas and many suppliers were offered alongside discussions on deep tech issues currently in vogue.  

Prof. Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn said, “Chulalongkorn University’s vision is to achieve “Chula Innovations for Society” with the purpose to put knowledge and innovation to good use and improve society, as well as become a research university. Chula graduates must have 21^st century skills, be global citizens, and possess the academic knowledge accepted by employers around the world. More importantly, the university needs to engage in national and global public issues to help create a better society in the future.”  

The MHESI Minister, acknowledged that “The “Chula Deep Tech Demo Day 2023” was designed for startups focusing on deep tech. The main purpose of the event is to allow participating startups to present their products to potential investors and attract venture capital (VCs) and corporate venture capital (CVCs) investors to Thailand. Moreover, participants had an opportunity to connect with startups and key players in the innovation ecosystem, network with influential figures in the international deep tech innovation ecosystem, and receive insights on the current Thai start-up market.”  

In 2023, the Chula Innovations for Society initiative was able to create over 100 companies for society, with over 10 million USD in capital, over 600 million USD in market value, and benefiting over 4 million people. By 2026, the funding is expected to reach 100 million USD, with over 1.6 billion USD market value.
