The Public Sociological Association (Thailand), in collaboration with the Social Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University, organized the 1st PSAT International Conference on “Inequality and Social Justice Sensitivity” on June 7, 2024, at Chaloem Rajakumari 60 Building (Chamchuri 10 Building). Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, Acting President of Chulalongkorn University presided over the event and delivered the opening speech. Prof. Guy Standing from SOAS University of London was the keynote speaker.
This conference aims to disseminate and create dialogue in academic circles both domestically and internationally to promote knowledge in social sciences at the national and global level. More than 150 people attended this international conference.
Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, stated that issues of inequality and perceptions of social justice are widely discussed on the global, national and local levels. As social dynamics create changes in various fields and the social gap continues to expand, many people in society still lack access basic services from the government and are not treated with respect and equality by society. Organizing this academic conference with various activities such as lectures, discussions, and presentations of research results is akin to throwing a stone into water, creating ripples that raise awareness of the history and potential of these issues. This can be a starting point for driving further study and in-depth research on inequality and perceptions of fairness in society, ultimately influencing policymakers in the future.
