Bangkok Car Free Day 2024 on Banthat Thong Road: A Successful Model of Happiness for All

The Bangkok Car Free Day 2024 event on Banthat Thong Road, co-organized by Chulalongkorn University, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and partner networks, continued for its second day on Sunday, September 22, 2024. The event garnered widespread public interest, transforming the renowned Banthat Thong Road, known for its Thai street food, into a pedestrian-friendly zone and a model street of happiness for all.

The lively atmosphere on the final day of Bangkok Car Free Day 2024 at Banthat Thong Road was filled with creative activities, including bike riding, street and crosswalk painting, street performances, and various exhibitions. Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, participated in the event and shared their thoughts with the media on its success.
Held from September 21 to 22, 2024, Bangkok Car Free Day 2024 on Banthat Thong Road, was part of a global campaign in celebration of World Car Free Day, observed annually on September 22.
The event aligned with other cities worldwide under the theme “Bangkok Car Free for All 2024: Connecting for Life.” It turned the city into a living experiment, transforming Banthat Thong Road by “organizing sidewalks and turning car-centric streets into spaces where people can live and thrive.”
