Chulalongkorn University will host a series of events to honor His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on the occasion of His Majesty’s 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024. These include the presentation of the Royal Patron’s Gown to His Majesty the King and a grand musical performance, “United in Loyalty, Celebrating the Tenth Monarch of the Chakri Royal Dynasty: Thai and International Orchestra Honoring His Majesty the King,” a collaborative effort between Chulalongkorn University, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and the Royal Thai Police.
Their Majesties the King and Queen will grace the event with their presence, attending the robe presentation ceremony and the musical performance on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Chulalongkorn University Auditorium.
In recognition of His Majesty’s patronage, Chulalongkorn University will present the specially designed the Royal Patron’s Gown to His Majesty the King. This follows the resolution of the University Council at their 888th Meeting on June 27, 2024, to celebrate the Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King.
The university has previously presented these prestigious robes to two monarchs:
The gown symbolizes the university’s recognition of His Majesty as its royal patron, a tradition established by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) when founding the Civil Service College, now Chulalongkorn University. These robes are exclusively presented to reigning monarchs after their coronation.
The robes feature a unique design with white sheer fabric, yellow felt borders symbolizing the Chakri dynasty, gold embroidery, and Chulalongkorn’s emblem on the chest.
The concert will feature performances by Thai classical and Western orchestras, divided into six acts:
1. Act 1: “Vajirarat Overture” Composed and conducted by National Artist Dr. Sirichaichan Fachamroon
2. Act 2: Xylophone Solo – “Cherd Nok” Arranged and conducted by Dr. Sirichaichan Fachamroon
3. Act 3: “Chao Phraya Suite: Streams of Time and Civilization” Composed and conducted by Associate Professor Dr. Yuthana Chappanaratt
4. Act 4: “Triumphal March” from AidaComposed by Giuseppe Verdi and conducted by Wing Commander Likhit Boonya
5. Act 5: Royal Compositions by King Bhumibol Adulyadej
