Chula’s Petroleum and Petrochemical College Hosts “The Vinyl Sustainability Forum 2024: The Challenge Towards Circularity”

The Petroleum and Petrochemical College of Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the ASEAN Vinyl Council, AGC Vinyl Thai Public Company Limited, and SCG Chemical Public Company Limited, recently organized the seminar “The Vinyl Sustainability Forum 2024: The Challenge Towards Circularity.” The event, held at the Mandarin Hotel, aimed to drive the concept of a Circular Economy within the vinyl industry—an essential sector in the ASEAN region—and marked a significant step toward showcasing the commitment of all stakeholders to sustainable development in the future.

Professor Dr. Pramoch Rangsunvigit, Dean of the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, delivered the opening remarks and welcomed participants. He emphasized the importance of advancing vinyl as a sustainable material, aligning with the principles of the Circular Economy and minimizing environmental impact.
The seminar featured visionary discussions on sustainability in the vinyl industry, with notable speakers including Dr. Methee Wongsirisuwan, Director of Lopburi Cancer Hospital, and Mr. Apichai Chareonsuk, Vice Chairman of the ASEAN Vinyl Council and Managing Director of Thai Plastic and Chemicals Public Company Limited. Representatives from both the public and private sectors, such as the Pollution Control Department, S&P Global Singapore, and Thai Polyethylene Company, also participated.
Additionally, the event included the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the project “Post-Use PVC Medical Equipment Management: From Non-Infectious Waste to Recycled Materials.” The agreement, involving Lopburi Cancer Hospital, the ASEAN Vinyl Council, and Chulalongkorn University’s Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance and Waste Management, focuses on recycling used medical materials to reduce the consumption of new resources and create sustainable added value.
