The Department of Music Education, Faculty of Arts, Music, and Performing Arts at Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Office of Arts and Culture Administration and the Chulalongkorn University Property Management Office, organized a workshop and music performance with the Singapore Armed Forces Band. The event, held on March 22-23, 2025, at the Music Plaza on the 6th floor of Chamchuri 9 Building at Chulalongkorn University and the Amphitheater at Siam Square One, aims to promote Chulalongkorn University’s mission of social engagement. It also serves as a platform for integrating arts, culture, and international cooperation, fostering stronger ties between the musical and cultural communities of both countries, which will lead to long-lasting relationships.
The event was honored by the presence of Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, the President of Chulalongkorn University; Mr. Harry Goh, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counsellor, the Embassy of Singapore in Thailand; Major General Sekson Potiphayong, Director of the Royal Thai Army Band; and other distinguished guests including the chief administrators of Chulalongkorn University.
The music performance is a collaboration between the Chulalongkorn University Symphonic Band (CU Symphonic Band), the Singapore Armed Forces Band, and the Royal Thai Army Band. The program featured contemporary and classic pieces, arranged for wind ensemble, such as Fantillusion, arranged by Takashi Hoshide; Glenn Miller Selections, arranged by Naohiro Iwai; and Taylor Swift Classics, arranged by Isagi Yoichi. The performance also included compositions by Thai and Singaporean composers, such as Overture No. 2 by Kelly Tang and traditional Thai pieces like “Lao Duang Deun” and “Burmese Khwe,” which were newly arranged by Colonel Dr. Prateep Suphanrojn.
The conductors for the event were Wantana Tancharoenpol, a lecturer in the Department of Music Education at Chulalongkorn University; ME5 Ignatius Wang, Director of Music at the Singapore Armed Forces Band, and Colonel Dr. Prateep Suphanrojn, who served as guest conductor.
