Chulalongkorn University provided urgent on-ground support to communities in Nan Province on July 17, 2025, following severe flooding and landslides in multiple areas. Among those particularly affected were Ban Huai Lao, Ban Sali, and Ban Wanai Phrai, which were cut off from the outside world and facing shortages of food and drinking water due to continuous heavy rainfall.
This assistance is part of “Chula-DSN: Chula Disaster Solutions Network,” a research and operations network initiated by Chulalongkorn University to mitigate and respond to disasters at the community level. Chulalongkorn has allocated budget to deliver drinking water, rice, dried food, fresh vegetables, and eggs from local producers through cooperation with Sri Nan National Park and the Nan Recovery Network.
This relief operation involves the use of digital technology in the “Digital War Room” system and “Digital Disaster Monitoring Maps” that can provide real-time alerts for water levels, rainfall, and landslide risks, enhancing the ability for accurate and timely response within the communities themselves.
The operations of Chula-DSN align with the university’s sustainability mission, particularly supporting SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Chulalongkorn University continues to closely monitor the situation, particularly the effects of Typhoon ‘WIPHA,’ which is expected to enter the northern region between July 19-24, 2025, and may compound the damage on already affected areas.
The University reaffirms the university’s role as a source of academics, technology, and collective social force in building immunity for communities in the Nan River Basin and other areas of the country through continuous promotion of knowledge, research, and cooperation with partners from all sectors.
Chulalongkorn University invites the public to donate funds for purchasing goods and supporting the operations of the Chula-DSN network by scanning the QR Code below.
