Prof. Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) and Chairman of the Chulalongkorn University Council, recently held in-depth discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Boao Forum for Asia, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 25–27, 2025.
This dialogue marked an important platform reflecting Thailand’s role in shaping the future direction of Southeast Asia amid global change. Both sides exchanged visions and strategic perspectives on key regional issues—economic, political, and social—with the shared goal of strengthening ASEAN cooperation to ensure resilience and meaningful connection with the global community.
Prof. Dr. Surakiart emphasized ASEAN’s role as a “region of opportunity” that could serve as a hub for economic growth and international cooperation, provided member states work towards deeper integration and stronger mechanisms. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the importance of inclusive and sustainable growth, ensuring that the region advances without leaving anyone behind.
This meeting not only reaffirms Thailand’s proactive role on the international stage but also highlights Chulalongkorn University’s potential as a leading academic institution fostering thought leadership to help drive society and the region toward sustainable development.
