The College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University, organized an international workshop titled “Demographic Analysis with Applications to Aging and Health” from November 3 to 21, 2025. Asst. Prof. Dr. Rukchanok Karcharnubarn, Dean of the College of Population Studies, delivered the welcome remarks, followed by greetings from representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, who welcomed international participants. The main speaker, Prof. Sergei Scherbov, Distinguished Emeritus Research Scholar in the Population and Just Societies Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria, shared his expertise on demographic analysis methods, population aging assessment, and application of demographic data to health and social policy development—knowledge that is essential for strengthening aging-support systems at both national and international levels.
The workshop emphasized hands-on learning, allowing participants to practice using demographic data analysis tools, conduct future population projections, and apply modeling techniques to real-world scenarios from various countries. It also provided a platform for knowledge exchange among experts and practitioners in demography and public policy. This year, the event welcomed participants from more than ten countries—including Singapore, Malaysia, China, Myanmar, Austria, the Maldives, Ghana, Lesotho, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and Thailand—highlighting the role of Chulalongkorn University’s College of Population Studies as an international hub for demographic research and social policy development.
This training was supported by the Yidan Prize Foundation and UNFPA Thailand to promote workforce development and strengthen collaborative networks in demography and social structural change at both regional and global levels.
