The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, together with the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University (AADTH), organized the 1st academic conference titled “Symbiotic Coordinates: The Lancang–Mekong Art Realm” on November 29, 2025, at the Alumni Association Building of Chulalongkorn University under the Royal Patronage. The event was held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, with Professor Dr. Kumkom Pornprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, presiding over the opening ceremony. The event was also attended by Prof. Wang Jiansong, Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Design/Director of the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, and Prof. Jin Hui, Dean of the School of Fine Arts, Minjiang University

Chula and Tsinghua University Co-Host 1st ‘Lancang–Mekong Art Realm’ Conference Celebrating 50 Years of Thailand–China Relations 

This academic conference, jointly organized by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and AADTH, was organized under the theme “Dialogue from China to Southeast Asia: Practical Sharing and Ethical Collaboration Across Borders for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).” The conference aimed to exchange perspectives on creative research and to present research works by scholars, researchers, and doctoral students focusing on artistic and cultural relations between Chinese civilization and Southeast Asia. Activities included an art exhibition and a conference on artistic innovation for the preservation and continuation of cultural heritage. 

A total of 120 participants joined from four universities in Thailand—Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Pathum Thani University—and nine universities from the People’s Republic of China: Tsinghua University, Minjiang University, Chuxiong Normal University, Communication University of Arts, Ankang University, Beijing University of Technology, Guangdong Peizheng College, Guangxi Medical University, and Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts


For this conference, the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, received academic collaboration from Minjiang University’s School of Fine Arts, Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Decorative Arts, Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, and Pathum Thani University International College, as well as nine participating Chinese universities. Additional support also came from seven Chinese academic and arts institutions: the Southeast Asia Education and Cultural Exchange Development Association, the New Silk Road Art Committee of the China Association for the Promotion of Culture and Art, the Tang Dynasty Culture and Education Group, Sushu Lacquer Art Studio, BGC Glass Studio, the Fujian Provincial Artists Association of China, and the Shanghai Artists Association of China. 


Moreover, the faculty received support from the Ministry of Culture and Mr. Poompichai Tarndamrong, Vice Chairman of the Public Health Committee and Advisor to the Minister of Defense, who delivered the welcoming remarks and participated in the conference. Significant contributions also came from Prof. Zhong Shang, Director of the Department of Arts and Culture, College of Arts & Design, Beijing University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Jinlin Li of Angkan University’s Art Institute, Mr. Xiaodong Tang, representative from Tang Dynasty Culture and Education Group Co., Ltd., Thailand, Dr. Tanathon Jiarakun, representative of Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Decorative Arts, Assoc. Prof. Pitsamai Awakulpanich from Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Ms. Natthaphat Piyamaporn, Acting Director of the Department of Folk Arts, Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, and Mr. Qing Ping, President of the Southeast Asia Education and Cultural Exchange Development Association. 

The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, wishes to acknowledge its appreciation for the support from its administrative team: Assoc.
