Chula Celebrates Gold Medal Wins for Sports Science and Petroleum & Petrochemicals at DIS 2025, UAE

Chulalongkorn University is proud to congratulate the faculty members from the Faculty of Sports Science and the College of Petroleum and Petrochemicals who have won gold medals and major awards at the international innovation competition, DIS 2025: International Development Invention Show, held on December 12–13, 2025, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Their achievements have enhanced Thailand’s esteem and brought pride to the university, as follows:

  • Asst. Prof. Surasa Khongprasert, Faculty of Sports Science, Chulalongkorn University, won three awards: a Gold Medal, the 50th Anniversary Special Award, and the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Romanian Inventors Forum. These awards were for her innovation, “Star Balance Pro 360”, a balance training device for older adults. This innovation reflects the potential of sports science research in developing practical healthcare tools for enhancing fitness, rehabilitation, and preventive health care. It is another point of pride for the Faculty of Sports Science at Chulalongkorn University, creating internationally recognized innovations.

  • Prof. Dr. Rathanawan Magaraphan, College of Petroleum and Petrochemicals, Chulalongkorn University, won the Gold Medal (Special Invention Award) from Tajikistan and a Silver Medal for her world-changing innovation: “Functionalized reclaimed rubber from waste tires as thermal and sound absorbers with improved durability for metal sheet roofing.” This project transforms used tires through chemical processes into a new material that adheres well to metal sheets, serving as a heat and sound absorber with enhanced durability for metal roofing. 

The sense of kinship and warmth found in the Chula community is priceless and a treasure worth keeping.
