During 11 – 13 March 2020, the Office of Student Affairs, the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the Student Government of Chulalongkorn University organized a workshop for students and faculty members to make their own cloth face masks. The opening ceremony was presided by Professor Sirithorn Srichalakom, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Fine Arts and joined by Assistant Professor Dujhatai Vonggapan, Head of the Creative Arts Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts and designer of the face masks.
Professor Sirithorn Srichalakom said that the workshop was meant to teach students and faculty members to make homemade masks that are reusable and can help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The workshops were taught by creative arts and design professors from the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Education, four times a day during 11 – 13 March 2020. The masks were hand-sewn with 3-layers of 100% cotton and special filagen fabric to prevent bacteria. Filters could also be inserted into the mask for additional protection.
The workshop response was extremely positive as many students and faculty members, across all faculties, joined the workshops during the 3-day period.
