On March 22, 2026, Veterinary Medical Aquatic Animal Research Center (VMARC), Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Earth Agenda Foundation, organized an activity titled “Returning turtles and softshell turtles to the wild” at Wat Phosop Phon Charoen, Pathumthani. The purpose of the activity was to restore the health of turtles and softshell turtles before returning them to their natural habitat.
The project was led by Dr. Thanida Haetrakul, Director of VMARC, along with Prof. Dr. Nantarika Chansue, President of the Earth Agenda Foundation. It has received cooperation from various sectors, namely the Association of Capital Market Academy Alumni, Earth Agenda Foundation, Pathumthani Provincial Administrative Organization, Love Turtle Club, students from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science and from D-Prep International School, and representatives from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), as well as individuals interested in environmental conservation.
During the activity, the veterinary team, veterinary students, and volunteers worked closely together to care for the turtles and softshell turtles. Their work included cleaning, health check-ups, deworming, and providing basic medical treatment for a total of 313 animals. The aim was to restore their health and prepare them for their return to the wild.
Native Thai turtles that have completed the quarantine and medical treatment process will be released back into suitable natural habitats where they can live safely while also helping to restore the balance of the ecosystem in the long term.
