First School in Southeast Asia to Earn Business School Impact Label

Inspire. Connect. Transform.

For a better, smarter, and more sustainable world.

Sustainability has always been a focus at Sasin School of Management, and our strategy is to develop sustainability through an entrepreneurial mindset. Sasin has consistently put accountability to all stakeholders and sustainability – of business, the environment, and social structures – at the core of our curriculum. We proactively search for ways to maximize the impact of our activities to build a better and more sustainable world.

In 2019, Sasin created a new role, Chief Impact Officer, and have witnessed positive results. In December 2019, Sasin was awarded the Business School Impact System (BSIS) label from the EFMD Global Network – the first comprehensive impact assessment tool for business schools, which assesses a school’s impact on the financial, economic, societal, and image aspects of the local environment. This meant that Sasin is the first business school in Southeast Asia and the 3rd in all of Asia to earn this designation. Going through the BSIS process has reinforced us on the importance of what we do on every level – from education to business development to social and community impact. Measuring the impacts has also created understanding and empathy between all parts of the organization which can effectively influence how different units work together, assist each other, and achieve maximum performance to improve overall impact.

“Everyone at Sasin is proud that we’ve been named as a BSIS Impact School,” said Sasin’s Director, Professor Ian Fenwick. “The measure of a good business school, or any learning institution, is the impact it brings to the people and organizations in its community. Going through this process has reinforced for us the importance of what we do on every level – educational, business development, and societal.”

Deputy Director of Strategy, Innovation, and Impact, Nick Pisalyaput, noted how this award coincides with Sasin’s purpose: “Sustainability has long been a focus of what we do at Sasin, and our new strategy, to develop sustainability through an entrepreneurial mindset, has been strengthened by this process,” he said. “With this new BSIS designation, we will be re-invigorated to maximize the impact of all of our activities in our efforts to build a better, more sustainable world.”

Sasin is determined to be a role model for other business schools in measuring, scaling, and communicating impact. The measure of a good business school, or any learning institution, is the impact it brings to the people and organizations in its community. With strategic alignment, continuous improvement, innovation, partnerships, and collaboration, Sasin will continue to have more impact on communities in the future.
