Chulalongkorn University and the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) jointly announced a collaboration titled “Integrating Cooperation to Promote Innovation and Develop Health Products for Commercialization” on May 19, 2026, at the Sala Phra Kiao, Chulalongkorn University. The partnership aims to strengthen Thailand’s health innovation capabilities by integrating knowledge, research, technology, and regulatory mechanisms to develop standardized health products that can be commercialized and compete globally.

The event featured vision statements from Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Ms. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary General of the Food and Drug Administration, who emphasized advancing Thai research and innovation to the global market. Professor Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr, Vice President, Chulalongkorn University, officially opened the event and highlighted the important role of higher education institutions in transforming research into tangible social impact.

This collaboration marks another significant step in integrating the strengths of academia and national regulatory agencies to build a “Health Innovation Ecosystem” that supports researchers, entrepreneurs, and Thai startups. The initiative aims to reduce regulatory barriers while enabling innovative health products to move from “research” to “real-world application” and expand their competitiveness internationally under the Thai FDA’s “From Local to Global” policy.

During the event, the “Chula x FDA Express for Innovation” project was officially launched under the concept “A Professional Fast Track to FDA Standards for Innovative Products.” The project is designed as a comprehensive support mechanism for Thai entrepreneurs through Fast-Track & Pre-Consultation systems and a One Stop Service model. These services are intended to simplify product development, registration, and licensing procedures while accelerating market access for Thai innovations with international standards and competitiveness.

In addition, the collaboration framework includes workshops and consultation clinics that provide researchers, entrepreneurs, and startups with in-depth guidance from Thai FDA experts across a broad range of health products, including food, cosmetics, herbal products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and innovative healthcare products. These activities aim to help participants efficiently prepare product development and regulatory registration.

The collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and the Thai FDA is, therefore, not only the beginning of a partnership between two organizations but also the beginning of a new mechanism to systematically drive Thailand’s health innovation sector forward—connecting research, standards, regulations, entrepreneur development, and economic opportunities—with the shared goal of positioning Thailand as a regional hub for health innovation in the future.
