Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Presides Over the Opening of CHEP 2026 Global Academic Conference

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., at the Chulalongkorn University Auditorium, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the “28th Conference on Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics (CHEP 2026).”



Distinguished attendees included Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of Chulalongkorn University Council; Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University; Professor Dr. Pairash Thajchayapong, Secretary-General of the Information Technology Foundation under the Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn; Professor Dr. Pranut Potiyaraj, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University; and Assistant Professor Dr. Norraphat Srimanobhas, representative of the conference organizing committee.

During the ceremony, Assistant Professor Dr. Sojiphong Chatraphorn, Head of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, presented the conference documentation to Her Royal Highness. Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat also presented a report summarizing the collaborative activities between Chulalongkorn University and CERN. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai expressed gratitude for Her Royal Highness’s gracious support and reported on the progress of the collaboration with CERN. Assistant Professor Dr. Norraphat Srimanobhas presented the objectives of the conference and invited representatives from co-organizing institutions, supporting organizations, and the conference committee to receive royal certificates of recognition, totaling 13 recipients.


On this occasion, Her Royal Highness delivered the opening address and attended special keynote lectures by Dr. Simone Campana of CERN on the topic “HEP and Scientific Computing Future” and Professor Zoe Holmes from EPFL on “From Quantum Computing and Quantum Algorithms to High Energy Physics.” The lectures highlighted advances in computer technology and global research infrastructure.
Following the lectures, Her Royal Highness posed for a commemorative photograph with the conference organizing committee and executives from the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, and signed the guest book at the reception room of the Chulalongkorn University Auditorium.
CHEP 2026 is regarded as a major international forum on computer technology, advanced data processing systems, and artificial intelligence applications for high-energy physics and nuclear physics research. The conference brought together more than 500 scientists, researchers, and experts from around the world, reflecting Thailand’s potential as an international hub for scientific, technological, and innovation collaboration.
