Chula Hosts the Opening of the IGU-CGE 2026 Bangkok Conference on Education for Sustainability 

The Faculty of Education, through its Department of Educational Policy, Management and Leadership and College of Extension and Lifelong Learning for the People, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the International Geographical Union Commission on Geographical Education (IGU-CGE) and partner institutions, organized the opening ceremony of the IGU-CGE 2026 Bangkok Conference under the theme “Educating for Sustainability: Integrating Geographical and Interdisciplinary Knowledge, Practice and Innovation.” The ceremony was held on June 10, 2026, at the Duangduen Pisalbutr Conference Room, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, who delivered the opening remarks. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yotsawee Saifah, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, presented a report on the conference. The ceremony was attended by members of the organizing committee, representatives of IGU-CGE, distinguished experts, academics, researchers, faculty members, students, and conference participants from 17 countries worldwide.

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, stated in his opening remarks that Chulalongkorn University is deeply honored to support this important international conference, which brings together academics, educators, researchers, and practitioners who share a common goal of advancing geographical education and education for sustainability through the exchange of knowledge and international collaboration. The conference theme, “Educating for Sustainability: Integrating Geographical and Interdisciplinary Knowledge, Practice, and Innovation,” reflects the urgent need for education systems worldwide to respond to interconnected global challenges, including climate change, environmental degradation, social inequality, technological transformation, and geopolitical uncertainty. These challenges require new approaches to learning that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and foster a strong sense of responsibility toward the global community.

Associate Professor Dr. Yotsawee Saifah, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, reported that this conference was organized as an international academic forum for the exchange of knowledge, research findings, educational practices, and innovations in geography education, education for sustainability, and interdisciplinary learning. The conference aims to promote collaboration among academics, educators, researchers, practitioners, and students from a wide range of countries. 

The IGU-CGE 2026 Bangkok Conference will bring together representatives from the IGU-CGE, university administrators, distinguished experts, academics, researchers, faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as practitioners in geography education and education for sustainability from educational institutions in Thailand and abroad. The conference will feature a wide range of academic activities, including keynote lectures, oral research presentations, poster presentations, parallel sessions, workshops, academic panel discussions, the IGU-CGE Business Meeting, and networking activities aimed at fostering international academic collaboration and partnerships. 

This conference serves as an important platform for strengthening international academic networks, inspiring new ideas, and promoting collaboration in geography education, education for sustainability, and educational innovation. It aims to advance sustainable development at the local, regional, and global levels.
