Chula Fine Arts Student Selected at an International Music Audition
A student from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, has passed the international audition to perform in the Asian Youth Orchestra Festival Kuala Lumpur 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mr. Phumjit Rojanasaroch, a third-year student in the Western Music Program at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, was selected through a competitive audition as an oboist. He will perform with the AYO from June 21 to 28, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a valuable opportunity to further develop his musical skills on the international stage.
The Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is one of Asia’s leading youth orchestras. Founded in 1987 by the world-renowned violinist Yehudi Menuhin, the orchestra gave its first performance in 1990 under his conducting. Since then, AYO has grown into one of Asia’s leading pre-professional youth orchestras, selecting outstanding young musicians from across the region through a rigorous audition process. AYO is widely recognized as one of the world’s finest youth orchestras, which has received multiple awards, including the Praemium Imperiale Grant for Young Artists in 2010. More than 2,000 young musicians have participated in the orchestra’s training program, many of whom have gone on to establish successful international careers as professional musicians.
This achievement reflects not only the student’s talent and dedication but also the high quality of education provided by the Western Music Program at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sasi Pongsarayuth, Chair of the Western Music Program, together with the program’s faculty members, consistently fostered excellence and prepared its students to compete successfully on the international stage.
