Chula to Host AUN-AYCF 2027, Receives Host Flag in China
Professor Dr. Khamkhom Pornprasert, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University; Mr. Kunchit Jitratan, Director of the Office of Art and Culture; and Dr. Purit Sophonkanaphon, Director of the Division of Arts and Cultural Development and Promotion, represented Chulalongkorn University at the 21st ASEAN and 11th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum (AUN-AYCF), held from July 28 to August 2, 2026, at Guizhou University, People’s Republic of China.
During the forum, Chulalongkorn University officially received the host flag for the next AUN-AYCF, which will take place from July 12 to 17, 2027, at Chulalongkorn University. The opening ceremony on July 29, 2026, was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanapan Laiprakobsup, Executive Director of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), together with the executive leadership of Guizhou University.
Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam, Head of the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, led four students from the faculty in the forum’s activities:

The Thai delegation, comprising performers from five universities—Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, Burapha University, Mahidol University, and Prince of Songkla University—presented a performance entitled “The Weaving Wind: Music of Thai Textiles.”
The work featured newly composed music by Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam. The composition transforms the rhythmic sounds of the weaving loom (“kratuk ki”) found in textile traditions across Thailand into musical expression. Through music, it illustrates the silk-weaving process, beginning with silk reeling and drawing on melodic motifs from the traditional song Pleng Sao Mai (Silk Reeling Song). It also incorporates melodic patterns inspired by Lao Kratuk Ki, reinterpreting these traditional roots into a newly composed work.
The performance was a collaborative production by students from four universities within the AUN-AYCF Thailand University Network, who travelled together to participate in the forum.

About the ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF)
The ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF) is a network of 51 member universities from 13 countries dedicated to promoting learning and cultural exchange among young people from ASEAN and ASEAN+3 countries.
The forum achieves this through a wide range of activities, including academic lectures, cultural performances, workshops, and experiential learning. These activities provide participants with opportunities to appreciate cultural diversity, foster mutual respect and understanding, and strengthen the role of young people in preserving, developing, and advancing the region’s cultural heritage. The program also encourages participants to work closely with local communities in the host country, promoting collaborative learning and creative projects within multicultural settings.
The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, recognizes the importance of cultivating an understanding of ASEAN identity, together with cultural, linguistic, and religious sensitivity.
