Chula President Honors Hlun Solo and Presents His Degree Certificate to His Grandmother
On August 9, 2026, at a home in Moo 10, Somdet Subdistrict, Somdet District, Kalasin Province, Chulalongkorn University hosted a Buddhist memorial chanting ceremony for Mr. Boworntat Pengsuk (Hlun Solo), an alumnus of the Faculty of Political Science at Chulalongkorn University and a recipient of the 37th Chulalongkorn Rural Development Scholarship. The ceremony was held on its second evening.
Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, presided over the ceremony, joined by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Sompaiboon, Vice President for Student Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sanphet Chunithipaisan, Director of the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Center; Dr. Rabkwan Poosakaew, the university dormitory warden and advisor to Chulalongkorn University’s Northeastern Arts and Culture Club; as well as staff from the Office of Student Affairs and the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Center. They came together to pay their respects and offer condolences and support to Hlun’s family.
On this occasion, the president of Chulalongkorn University brought Hlun’s Bachelor of Political Science degree certificate and presented it to Mrs. Buasong Pengsuk, Hlun’s grandmother, so that she could receive it on behalf of her grandson.
Hlun had previously intended to personally bring his degree certificate home and present it to his grandmother. However, his sudden passing meant that he was unable to fulfill that wish. The president of Chulalongkorn University therefore presented the degree certificate to his grandmother on his behalf.
Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, said that Hlun’s passing has brought profound sadness and grief to his family, the university, and everyone who knew him. Yet what Hlun leaves behind is an example of a young person who was determined, dedicated to his education, and committed to self-improvement until he achieved academic success.
“Today, Hlun has proven that the true value of the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Scholarship is not merely financial support for education. It is an investment in a person’s life—one that gives them opportunities, enables them to build a better life, and empowers them to develop themselves until they can become an example to others.”
The president continued by saying that Chulalongkorn University’s role extends beyond providing financial scholarships to young people who are determined to pursue their education. More importantly, the university seeks to provide young people with “life capital”—the foundation they need to grow, develop their potential, and become an important force in society.
“What we gave Hlun through the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Scholarship was more than financial assistance; it was life capital. Today, Hlun has become a role model and a positive example for future generations of young people who seek to develop themselves.”
“The meaning and value of the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Scholarship lies in developing people in a holistic way. It is not simply about providing financial assistance but about creating opportunities for young people to develop themselves and build their own life capital. Hlun’s story can inspire many other young people across the country to dare to pursue their dreams and work toward becoming better versions of themselves,” the President said.
The President of Chulalongkorn University also expressed his appreciation to Hlun’s grandmother and family for caring for and raising him so well, enabling him to grow into a graduate of great value who was loved by those around him.
Hlun’s passing may bring deep sorrow to those who loved and were close to him, but his life story and determination will continue to inspire many young people to pursue their dreams, develop themselves, and contribute to society.
For Chulalongkorn University, having the opportunity to support Hlun’s educational journey through the Chulalongkorn Rural Development Scholarship was therefore about more than simply providing access to education. It was about helping to build “life capital” for a young person. The university believes that Hlun’s story will continue to inspire the development of a new generation—young people who grow into individuals of value and become a positive force for society.
