Chulalongkorn University Announcement Guidelines for Classes, Staff Work Arrangements, and Assistance for Students and Staff Affected by Heavy Rainfall and Flooding
Due to continuous heavy rainfall and flooding in several areas, including parts of Bangkok that have been declared disaster areas, students’ and staff members’ daily lives, classes and work have been affected.
Chulalongkorn University is deeply concerned for the well-being of its students and staff. It therefore sets out the following guidelines and assistance measures for 27–29 September 2026.
1. Teaching, learning, and examinations
Where classes are scheduled, Deans or Directors of academic units shall arrange for teaching to take place primarily online. Hybrid teaching may be used where necessary. Instructors shall allow students who cannot attend because of heavy rainfall or flooding situations to take leave without recording their absence.
Where examinations are scheduled, Deans or Directors responsible for teaching or examinations shall consider postponing them until conditions return to normal.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education may determine appropriate teaching and examination arrangements for Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Schools as necessary.
2. Staff work arrangements
As the University campus has not been affected by flooding, the University will remain open for on-site operations as usual. Vice Presidents, Deans, and Directors may, however, permit staff members affected by heavy rainfall or flooding to work from anywhere or to take time off without it being counted as leave.
Staff members who arrive at their workplace later than usual because of heavy rainfall or flooding shall not be considered late.
3. Assistance for students and staff
1. The University will provide temporary accommodation for affected students, staff, and their families at the Chulalongkorn University Sports Center and at other locations to be announced.
2. Medical care and health consultations are available to students and staff at the Chulalongkorn University Health Service Center.
3. Temporary parking is available to affected students and staff at Chamchuri Square and University Parking Buildings 1–4.
4. Students and staff may use the library and related services at the Office of Academic Resources (Central Library) 24 hours a day.
5. Students experiencing hardship due to flooding may apply for student welfare assistance through the Office of Student Affairs.
6. Staff affected by flooding may apply through the Office of Human Resources Management for an interest-free emergency loan to repair structural damage to their homes caused by heavy rainfall and flooding.
4. Graduation ceremony
The Royal Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2025 remains scheduled for 30 September–2 October 2026. Any changes will be announced.
5. Matters arising under this announcement
If any difficulty arises or it is not possible to act in accordance with this announcement, the President has the authority to make a final decision.
Chulalongkorn University remains deeply concerned for the health and safety of its students and our staff stands ready to offer necessary support and assistance. Anyone facing difficulties or requiring emergency assistance should contact the University or their respective unit immediately.
This announcement takes effect immediately and remains in force through 29 September 2026, or until otherwise announced.
