Chula Boosts 10++ Policies to Help Students Affected by the New Wave of COVID-19

To help students affected by the new wave of COVID-19, Chulalongkorn University has turned the 10++ policies up a notch for Academic Year 2021, including a 10% reduction of tuition fees and specific fees, scholarship offers, welfare allowances, and other additional forms of assistance.

Assistant Professor Chaiyaporn Puprasert, Vice President for Student Affairs, Chulalongkorn University, expressed concerns over the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students. He stated that the university, aware of the need to ease the financial burden on students and their family, will provide the “10++policies” again in the first semester of Academic Year 2021 to alleviate the troubles during this difficult time.

“Under the 10++ policies in Academic Year 2021, Chulalongkorn University plans to support all students affected by COVID-19, both from the previous and current pandemic waves.  Students seeking help are encouraged to submit a request for assistance”, said Assistant Professor Chaiyaporn.

The scholarships and welfare assistance available include:

Reduction of Tuition Fees and Specific Fees:

Chulalongkorn University will reduce the tuition fees and specific fees by 10% for all students during the Academic Year 2021.  (Each faculty or department may also reduce the specific fees further based on the faculty/department’s measures as they see fit.)

Academic Scholarships:

Several types of scholarships will be available, namely

  1. Scholarships for undergraduate students (2,000 scholarships)
  2. Scholarships for graduate students (150 scholarships)
  3. Scholarships for hiring students to work part-time: 
    Students will mainly work online for the university and be compensated an hourly rate of 100 Thai baht, capped at no more than 500 Thai baht per day.

Financial Aid:

  1. Student Welfare
    To ease the financial burden, each student affected by COVID-19, both previous and current, will be assisted with a grant of 5,000 – 10,000 Thai baht. 
  1. Dormitory Student Welfare:
    Dorm students can submit a request for an exemption or reduction of dormitory fees during the university’s temporary closure.
  1. Free Internet SIM cards:
    Over 3,000 SIM cards will be distributed to eligible students to make online learning accessible from home.  
  1. Laptops and Tablets for Loan: 
    Students may borrow laptops or tablets for home use.
  1. COVID-19 Insurance for Students: 
    The university is offering COVID-19 insurance to all students, over 37,000 students total.
  1. Healthcare Measures: 
    COVID-19 vaccines, COVID-19 testing, and COVID-19 accommodations for Chula community.

Chula students affected by the COVID-19 situation can submit a request for scholarship or assistance to the Student Affairs of each faculty, the CU NEX application, OR the Office of Student Affairs website (www.sa.chula.ac.th).
