Did you know that loss of hearing increases the risk of dementia by nearly two folds?
Chulalongkorn University and the Johns Hopkins Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health have collaborated on a training program in Aging, Hearing and Public Health for Health Care Professionals. The program is catered for healthcare leaders in Asia keen on helping older adults with hearing problems. The training will begin in May 2022 (online), and selected applicants will be invited to join the onsite workshops during 15-16 August 2022.
Studies show that risk of dementia increases by 1.94 folds with hearing loss, the highest modifiable risk factor for the illness. Fortunately, early detection and treatment of hearing loss may prevent dementia and the World Health Organization recommends early screening for hearing loss from the age of 50. During the training, participants will be guided on how to screen for hearing loss and design a program to suit specific communities within a country.
