Chula Signs MoU to Create Academic Cooperation for Sustainable Marine and Coastal Resources

Thursday, March 10, 2022 – Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn, President of Chulalongkorn University and Mr. Sopon Thongdee, Director-General of Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, have signed the memorandum of understanding to promote and support academic cooperation in Oceanography, Marine Science, Marine Ecosystem and Coastal Management, Coastal Erosion and Mangrove Ecosystem.
The ocean and all its shores are valuable natural resources for the country, whether it be for the environment, social life, or commerce. As use of the country’s marine and coastal resources expands, effective management becomes a necessity. Chulalongkorn University and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources have signed an academic cooperation agreement to research and develop oceanography and marine science, covering the physical, biological and management processes in the coastal, nearshore and the far shore areas. This agreement is made to not only help empower and support research, but also to develop new knowledge, exchange knowledge and academic information, and disseminate the knowledge broadly to the public. The benefit will be transferred to Chula students, personnel from the two institutes, and the nation.
Over the years, Chulalongkorn University and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources have collaborated on a number of research and academic projects, including the Coral and Coral Reef Resource Restoration Project, the Rare Sea Creatures Project, and the Marine Litter and Plastic Waste Project.
