Phra Chutathut Royal Residence Museum, Koh Si Chang

Beautiful traces of the past

About

The Phra Chutathut Royal Palace Museum, located on Koh Si Chang in Chonburi Province, holds the unique distinction of being Thailand’s only museum situated in a former royal palace on an island.

Built in 1889 during the reign of King Rama V, it once served as a residence for King Chulalongkorn and the royal family until operations ceased due to political unrest during the R.S. 112 (1893). Since 2004, Chulalongkorn University, in partnership with the Fine Arts Department, has led the restoration of the historic buildings, transforming them into a public museum and center for historical learning.
