Overview

Launched in 2010 as the first international architectural graduate program in Thailand,

the Master of Architecture in Architectural Design (i+mArch) is an advanced architecture program designed for students who would like to focus more on the advanced integration of architectural research and disciplines.

This program aims to produce competent graduates who can develop their interests and studies through various coursework into a supervised independent design/research exploration within one of the areas of study ranging from architectural design, architectural technology and innovation, and architectural history to theory and criticism and architectural practice and management.

WHY this program
at Chula

1

Arch CU is One of Asia’s Leading Architectural Schools

Widely regarded as one of the best architectural schools in Asia, Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Architecture (Arch CU) produces graduates with architectural knowledge that meets universal standards, have a cultural identity, social responsibility, and professional ethics.  As Thailand’s longest established school of architecture (founded in 1933), Arch CU has produced more than 5,000 graduates serving the public sectors and private enterprises both at local and international levels. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and experience architectural concepts and designs.

They are exposed to a variety of teaching methods, under suitable environments, and prepared to become practitioners with intellect and vision. Graduates are trained to adapt and integrate the theoretical and practical know-how, be ready to professionally address ongoing challenges faced by architects today, and prepare for the changes of tomorrow.

2

Top-Notch Instructors from around the World

Our instructors are graduates of leading international design schools, including The Architectural Association, Columbia University, University of California Berkeley, Tokyo University, and many more. Thus, the faculty bring with them unique perspectives on architectural innovation from around the world.

3

International Engagement and Collaboration

To further complement this core curriculum, students will have many opportunities for international engagement and collaboration through a series of workshops, seminars, and international guest lectures.

Career Opportunities

Our alumni are practicing architecture professionally and working in other related professions around the world.  Many of our students also pursue further education at top universities.  Other areas of career paths also include historians, theorists, conservationists, building technologists, real estate investors, or facility managers.  Graduates may also decide to pursue graduate studies in other design and planning disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, industrial design, interior design, design innovation, or explore the business aspect of architecture.

Admission

The i+mArch program is designed for students who have earned a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) as well as those who have earned architecturally focused pre-professional degrees such as the B.A. or B.S. with a major in Architectural Design, the Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree, or equivalent.

The program emphasizes course work and supervised independent design/research exploration in one of the following areas of study:

  • Architectural Design
  • Sustainable Technology and Innovation
  • Architectural History, Theory, and Criticism
  • Architectural Practice and Management

Research topics outside the above-mentioned fields may be undertaken subject to the approval of the Graduate Program Committee.  For detailed course descriptions, read more here.
