Overview

The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, founded in 1947, emphasizes academic excellence through diversified medical concentrations in our graduate and postgraduate programs. With over 70 years of experience and international collaborations, our strong medical heritage anchors our efforts to propel our program into uncharted frontiers in medicine. To this day, the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University is at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and biomedical research. The faculty continually leads the way in postgraduate training, research development, and healthcare excellence.

The Master of Science in Health Development aims to build in students the critical abilities as leaders of health institutions who possess a broad knowledge base. By applying the best available research evidence to help resolve current health problems and to ensure the successful implementation of future health care, students will learn the principle of research methodology and through best evidence, self-directed learning, and problem-based approaches.

Students will be provided with the opportunities to work closely with the advisors who are assigned based on the students’ research interest areas and their work will be assessed not only by faculty staff but also by visiting examiners. The students will be guided through manuscript writing to publish their own work. In this way, it is expected that students will grow in self-confidence and are prepared to lead their industries of choice.

1 One of Asia’s Leading Medical Schools

The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, was established in 1947 and is widely acknowledged as one of the leading medical schools in Thailand. The medical school together with King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society has led the way in medical training and healthcare excellence. We strongly advocate research in a wide variety of areas, promote achievements in medical science and public health for society.

Chula’s Faculty of Medicine is ranked in the top 50 of Asia’s leading medical schools by QS World University Rankings in 2018. Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020, based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) ranks Chulalongkorn among 101-200 (among 766 universities from 85 countries). The Faculty of Medicine is also certified by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). We publish over 400 publications in international journals annually.

2 Learn from the Country’s Best and Gain Hands-On Experience

Our program is academic cooperation between Chula’s Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Teachers from different departments and different faculties are invited to teach in this program so that many different skills will be provided to cover the concepts contained in the courses. Students will strengthen their critical abilities by learning for themselves and learning by doing. Great importance is given to informal learning opportunities and staff members are available for “mini seminars.” Students will present their work both as written reports and at seminars. Encouragement is given to use modern methods of communication and data presentation. The work is assessed not only by Faculty staff but also by visiting examiners.

Many of our students produce internationally accepted research projects and findings that they received numerous awards bringing great reputation to our Faculty and the university. They are highly sought after by famous international companies, hospitals abroad as well as reputable educational institutions.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can become talented health researchers, clinical professors, public health professionals, or epidemiologists to work in the setting such as universities, public health organizations, hospitals, medical education centers, or health-related organizations. The program suits career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary, medical technology, nursing, public health, or health sciences research program.

Admission

The program is a two-year master’s degree comprising 44 credits. Two specialized areas are offered, one in Clinical Epidemiology, and the other in Health Professional Education. Students are required to take full-time courses during the first year and will be allowed to collect data for their thesis in their hometown in the second year.

The core curriculum covers:

Critical appraisal of evidence;
Research protocol design;
Research methodology;
Biostatistics in clinical research; and
Health social science

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in medical sciences or health-related sciences i.e. Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Nursing Science, Medical Technology, Public Health, Social Sciences, economics, etc.;
Applicants must possess at least one-year working experience in a health-related field;
Applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 500 or 5.0 on IELTS or 60/120 on CU-TEP; and
Applicants should apply at Graduate Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.
