Overview

Established in 2006, the Ph.D. Program in Nanoscience and Technology (International Program) of Graduate school interlinks Chulalongkorn University’s research institutes such as Metallurgy and Material Research Institute and related faculties such as Science, Engineering, College of Petroleum and Petrochemistry, Pharmacy and Medical School.

Students have the flexibility to choose their thesis’s topics and advisors from staff members of any of these faculties and research institutes. We offer a high-level research-based education in the field of Nanoscience and Technology with English as a medium of teachings and dissertation. The program focuses on 3 main areas of nanotechnology:  Nanomaterial, Nanodevices, and Nanobiotechnology.

Students will have access to the world-class, state-of-Art research facilities such as Chulalongkorn’s Center of Excellence (CE), Research Unit (RU), Medical Research Center (MRC), Clinical Research Center (CRC), The Faculty of Engineering’s MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems ) and Nanotechnology laboratory, the fully-equipped research facilities of PPC (the Petroleum and Petrochemical College), and many more.

Our graduates can work in the public and private sectors both in Thailand and abroad.  Then can become professors, researchers, academia, consultants, entrepreneurs, etc.  Our graduates are highly sought after by various businesses and industries that need highly skilled personnel who can apply nanotechnology to enhance the production processes and services.  These industries include pharmaceutical, cosmetics, automobile, aerospace, construction materials, electronics, computers, garments and textiles, and fashion, to name a few. 

Admission

For prospective students who seek to advance their knowledge, research skills, and career in nanotechnology-related areas, we offer 2 different paths toward your goals at the master’s degree level:

Course work only program

Conventional track for those who plan to pursue their degree after graduation or have limited working experience and can dedicate their time fully at school. Candidates have the freedom of exploring and seeking research topics of their interest from university-wide research platforms.

Non-course work program

(recommend for industrial employees)

Non-conventional track for professionals who would like to pursue their research goals but are constrained for time because of their job. Candidates must have a specific research topic, supportive research infrastructure, and permission from their employer. Their research plans need to be discussed with and approved by an academic advisor before applying.

Qualification of applicants and admission criteria

Non-coursework program – For Master’s Degree Holders

  1. Applicants must hold a master’s degree in science or equivalent fields;
  2. An English proficiency test score: CU-TEP at least 45, or TOEFL at least 450 or IELTS at least 4.0;
  3. At least 3 years of working experience (only in science, technology, and engineering or equivalent);
  4. Other particular qualifications will be based on the approval of the program committee.

Coursework program – For Master’s Degree Holders

  1. Applicants must hold a master’s degree in science or equivalent fields;
  2. An English proficiency test score:  CU-TEP at least 45; TOEFL at least 450, or IELTS at least 4.0;
  3. Other particular qualifications will be based on the approval of the program committee

Coursework program – For Bachelor’s Degree Holders

  1. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent fields;
  2. GPA of no less than 3.25; 
  3. An English proficiency test score: CU-TEP- at least 45, or TOEFL – at least 450, or IELTS – at least 4.0;
  4. Other particular qualifications will be based on the approval of the program committee.
