Overview

The Master’s Degree Program in Oral Biology was established in 1994 and since then has continuously developed and become an internationally renowned graduate program in Oral Biology research as evidenced by ever-increasing numbers of the program’s international students.

In the year 2017, the program was converted to international program fully taught in English. Our alumni are currently holding positions as faculty members in prominent dental schools both in Thailand and overseas. Some continue to become remarkable postdoctoral researchers in Thailand, Japan, and France warranting the high standards of learning and teaching of the program.

Eighteen Oral Biology faculty members in the program produce outstanding research outputs in high ranking journals. Our program has also won numerous national and international awards in education and research.

Teaching and learning experience is carefully designed to develop students toward program’s expected learning outcomes (ELOs). Coursework and activities are formulated to assure that students achieve program’s ELOs for both Research Orientated and Coursework Integrated schemes. Timely assessments are regularly set to keep track on students’ performance and early identification of potential problems. Habitual evaluation plans are usually performed to obtain comments and feedback to improve teaching, learning, and assessment methods. Both Chula and the Faculty of Dentistry are equipped with world-class infrastructures supporting research and education. Students have full access to information technology both on and off campus via virtual private network (VPN).

With myriads of past accomplishments and continuous development plans, our International Graduate Program in Oral Biology is moving forward towards our vision as “World Class Oral Biology Graduate Program”.

1 Flexibility of Study Designs

Program designs are tailored to suit the best interests of prospective students. Generally, two main study designs are offered: 1) Research Orientated Scheme and 2) Coursework Integrated Scheme.

Students in Research Orientated Scheme are not required to register in coursework. However, they can register to any core and elective courses of interest to fulfill their needs. Particular activities are designed as mandatory for students in Research Orientated Scheme during their course of study to ensure learning experience to meet expected ELOs.

For Coursework Integrated Scheme, students are required to register in a total of 24 credits of coursework. Required core courses are 7 credits and students can register in other elective courses of their interest. However, certain teaching and learning activities are integrated into required core courses to ensure similar experience of all students in Coursework Integrated Scheme so that they achieve the program’s ELOs as required.

Program structure can be modified based on constructive comments from faculties, staff, and current students during the annual program meeting.

2 World-Class Research Facilities and Environment

Oral Biology Program Faculties publish many frontier research articles in high-ranking and influential journals. Students perform research in a researcher-friendly environment. World class research equipment and facilities are provided in many research centers and units including Center of Excellence for Regenerative Dentistry, Oral Biology Research Center, Genomics and Precision Dentistry Research Unit, Oral Microbiology and Immunology Research Unit, Host-Pathogen Biology and Nanobiotechnology Research Unit, Dental Stem Cell Biology Research Unit, and CUDENT Bioprint 3D Lab. The facilities support such activities ranging from in vitro cell culture, microbe study to clinical setting.

Career Opportunities

Both Thai and foreign students enrolling in our program usually hold position in research institutions, universities, or colleges and return to their research and academic position upon graduation. We also accept students who do not hold any position prior to entering the program. After completion of the degree, they usually pursue career in postdoctoral research (in Thailand, France, and Japan) or work at private dental hospitals.

Admission

Application:

The program is set up into two semesters format; August-December and January-May. Application for new students usually takes place in two rounds. The first round is around February-May for first semester enrollment and the second round is around Sep-Nov for second semester intake. Qualifications

Applicants must hold either a bachelor’s degree in Dentistry or other Biological Sciences. Those who have other health professional degrees are also welcome to apply.
Applicants must meet English proficiency score requirement (45 for CUTEP, 450 for TOEFL, 4.0 for IELTS taken within two years). Applicants graduated from programs of which the language of instruction is English are exempt from English proficiency scores.
Financial viability.

Selection of applicants is based on academic/research performance, experience, and interview according to the regulations of Chulalongkorn University’s Graduate School.
