Overview
The Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University offers a Master of Arts Program in Cultural Management (MACM) with three fields of concentration: Cultural Tourism Management, Performing Arts Management, Museum and Gallery Management. The M.A. Program in Cultural Management started its program in 1999 to provide students with a challenging opportunity to become leaders in arts and cultural organizations through more systematic, creative, and socially focused training. This is a program for people involved in the management of cultural heritage and cultural resources. The program’s objective is to prepare students for a fast-moving, ever-changing, and global environment.
Cultural management is a new field of study only recognized recently as a distinct discipline and profession in its unique capacity, career model, teaching, and research need. Its significance is increasing in a changing society where public and private sectors have to find new roles to play in response to rapid changes in the social and economic environment of cultural organizations. The cultural sector has a broad definition that includes live performing arts, museums, and heritage, entertainment as well as tourism. To optimize the potential of the cultural workforce, reinforcement of management in the cultural sector should be an urgent priority. Few Thai universities and institutions offer teaching in this discipline.
