Qualifications of Applicants
Track 1.1 (Research only) & 2.1 (Coursework & research) for applicants holding a master’s degree
- Hold a master’s degree in nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.50 (on a 4-point scale);
- Meet Chula’s English Proficiency requirements;
- Possess at least one year of professional nursing experience;
- Hold a nursing license (first level) and a midwifery license (first level), or a nursing and midwifery license (first level); and
- Applicants for Track 1.1 must have at least one publication in a national or international journal (s) to be considered.
- Other qualifications according to the Graduate School’s annual announcement or approval by the Ph.D. program administrative committee.
Track 2.2 (Course work & research) for applicants holding a bachelor’s degree
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science (Nursing) with a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4-point scale;
- Meet Chula’s English Proficiency requirements;
- Possess at least one year of professional nursing experience;
- Hold a nursing license (first level) and a midwifery license (first level), or a nursing and midwifery license (first level); and
- Have evidence of scholarly work or are approved by the Ph.D. program administrative committee.
- Other qualifications according to the Graduate School’s annual announcement or approval by the Ph.D. program administrative committee.
Note: Non-Thai applicants must have a master’s degree in nursing or equivalent and hold a nursing license issued by the responsible authorities in their countries. Unlicensed applicants must have a certificate of license application approved by the Nursing Regulatory Authority in their countries.

Required documents
- Application form with a current photograph;
- A current resume or curriculum vitae. Involvement in professional or civic organizations, along with any awards, honors, publications, presentations, and continuing educational experiences should be included;
- For international applicants, a report of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score ≥ 525 or the Test of English Proficiency of Chulalongkorn University score (CU-TEP) ≥ 67 or IELTS ≥ 5.5;
- Official transcripts, from each college or university applicant has attended since high school. A transcript that shows transferred credits is official only for credits taken at that institution. (It is not an official transcript for the transferred credits);
- A copy of identification document (passport/Thai identification card);
- A scanned copy of the certificate of applicant’s last degree;
- A copy of the current registered nurse (RN) license.
- A 3-page, double-spaced, essay describing rationales for pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing, areas of interest and concerns, and aspirations following graduation, including scholarly experiences, such as the initiation of, or the collaboration on research projects;
- Examples of academic achievements: publications, certificates, etc.;
- Three references from individuals who can attest to applicant’s personal and intellectual traits. At least one should be from applicant’s previous instructor, the others can be from supervisors.
