The Master of Arts in Music Therapy is a two-year innovative, hybrid, interdisciplinary course that combines online learning with on-campus classes. The course integrates the best of both American and European music therapy approaches to optimize clinical practices, which enable participating students to develop the skills necessary to work with a variety of clinical populations and goals.
The use of music for health has long been part of indigenous practices and today has become an evidence-based field of therapy to help people improve their physical, mental and emotional well-being. Internationally, research has shown the therapeutic benefits of music therapy for a wide range of health conditions and disabilities, such as developmental disorders (e.g., ASD, ADHD), neurological disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, brain injury), mental health conditions (e.g., depression, stress, anxiety), and medical conditions (e.g., pain).
Combining art and science, this interdisciplinary program is a collaboration between Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Psychology and the Graduate School, with adjunct lecturers from world-renowned institutions.
Apart from being the top ranked university in Thailand in the QS World University Ranking 2020, Chulalongkorn University ranked in the top 200 universities for Arts and Humanities in the 2018 QS World University ranking and in the top 50 for universities in Asia.
The MA in Music Therapy combines the best of both American and European approaches, thereby facilitating students to develop skill sets that are in demand in the private and public sectors, international agencies, NGOs and educational institutions.
