Green Chemistry and Sustainability is an international graduate program offered by the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. The program aims to support and motivate frontier research in green and sustainable chemistry, a driving force for the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the BCG model (B for Bio Economy, C for Circular Economy, and G for Green Economy).
Students are provided with not only a solid chemistry background, but also trained to think beyond the conventional mind frame. With the foundation of green and sustainable chemistry, and through research, students can apply their knowledge to efficiently invent innovations for a greener world.
In addition to a deeper knowledge in science, students will be equipped with business and design concepts. Entrepreneurship camps and short course trainings will be organized regularly for students to acquire the entrepreneurship skills that will help turn inventions into innovations, while valuing the impact to the community and creating a sustainable society.
To help establish the “Green Chemistry for Sustainability and Innovation Center” and to train students, the faculty has collaborated with world-wide academia and industry-related organizations, including Monash University, Yale University’s Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, Zymergen, and Beyond Benign. In the regular courses, special topics are taught by well-known professors from around the world and successful entrepreneurs.
Green Chemistry and Sustainability graduates can work in a wide variety of chemistry-related careers, whether in academia or the industry. With the entrepreneurship skills acquired, they can become business start-uppers, turning research into innovations.
