Chulalongkorn University Presents Overview of Development in Nan and GIS Database to Support Development Planning

On May 15, 2023, at the Nan Provincial Hall, Mr. Wiboon Waewbandhit, Governor of Nan Province, held a meeting with the collaborative working group of Nan Province and Chulalongkorn University for the development of Nan. The Chulalongkorn working group, led by Prof. Dr. Chakkaphan Sutthirat, Vice President for Research Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pannee Cheewinsiriwat, Assistant Vice President for Research Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Pharm. Dr. Vithaya Kulsomboon, Director of the Second Century Fund (C2F), faculty members and researchers from Chulalongkorn University, presented the research works carried out by Chulalongkorn University faculty members and researchers working in Nan.

Ms. Atpha Kornthong, Head of the Nan Provincial Office, and the team held a discussion among the Nan Province working group. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pannee Cheewinsiriwat, Assistant Vice President and Head of the GIS Processing System Development Project, presented an overview of the development of Nan Province using the Geographic Information System or GIS that processes work in the area. The system allows users to view project results, operators and project details, including texts and pictures of activities. The information is stored in a search function for operations, consisting of area-based development activities in Nan of the faculties, research Institutes, and agencies within Chulalongkorn University, e.g., the School of Agricultural Resources, Centre of Learning Network for Region, Institute of Environmental Research, Institute of Asian Studies, various faculties, etc.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Tansiphorn Na Nan, School of Agricultural Resources, Chulalongkorn University, presented research results to develop and upgrade the Nan cocoa supply chain by increasing the competency and quality management skills involving cocoa production from upstream to midstream and downstream businesses towards being a model for cocoa plantation in other areas in the country. Chulalongkorn University supported the establishment of the Innovation Center of Research and Development of Sustainable Thai Cacao (ISTC) as a mechanism for research and development of knowledge on cocoa towards international standards.

Asst. Prof. Dvm. Dr. Winai Kaewlamun from the School of Agricultural Resources, Chulalongkorn University presented 4 projects in Nan Province, namely the development of beef cattle production, development of goat and sheep production, development of high-quality coffee, and the development of digital technology system to support water resource management decisions of water user organizations and local administrative organizations.Mr. Wiboon Waewbandhit, Governor of Nan Province, endorsed collaboration with Chulalongkorn University, as an academic institution, for sustainable development of the city.
