Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School Teachers and Students Win 2 Grand Prizes at WICO 2023 in South Korea

Teachers and students of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School received international recognition for winning two Grand Prizes and 22 other prizes at the “12th World Invention Creativity Olympic 2023” (WICO 2023) organized by the Korea University Invention Association (KUIA) and World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA). The event was held on July 27-29, 2023, at SETEC Convention Hall, in Seoul, South Korea. There was a total of 311 innovations submitted from 22 countries. 

The innovations by teachers and students from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School that received awards were as follows:  

  • “OxyRock” received the Grand Prize, Gold Medal, and Special Award. This innovation was developed by Mr. Jeerasak Jitrojanarak and Mr. Robert Armstrong, teachers from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School, and Mr. Parintorn Chaengtawee, a graduate student at the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Sanong Ekgasit, lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University.  

    “OxyRock”  is an innovation that combines plastic filament made from plastic waste (PLA) left over from 3D printing work with pearlescent sand made from discarded mussel shells to form a shape before coating it with titanium mixed with pearlescent sand. This shape has the quality to absorb unwanted odors and help in air purification.  
  • “SAS Smart Alert Sensor” received the Grand Prize and the Gold Medal. This innovation was developed by Miss Rawin Choojarukul, Mr. Phasant Sanpanawat, Miss Taenhatai Jitdharma, and Mr. Pawin Rungrojchaiyaporn. 

    “SAS Smart Alert Sensor” is a life-saving innovation designed to be a home decoration item. Inside contains a CCTV camera and advanced sensors that can detect potential dangers such as earthquakes, fire, gas leaks, theft, air pollutants like PM2.5, VOCs, and noise pollution. Users will be automatically notified via the app on their smartphone to allow for a prompt response. 

Other innovations by teachers and students of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School that took home prizes included: 

  • “Happiness of Color” by Ms. Supinya Somtha received a Bronze Medal and the Special Award from Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA).  
  • “CuDough” by Ms. Namphueng Taweepatomkul received a Gold Medal and the Special Award from Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA). 
  • “Happy Pill Dispenser” by Mr. Nathan and Mr. Nakan Chalokephanrat received a Gold Medal and the Special Award from World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA).  
  • “Specialized Cleaning and Residue Unveiling Bot” by Miss Warinsaya Sereephapong, Miss Phichpanita Methasuriyapong, and Miss Pimpisa Pisarnbutr from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School and Mr. Tantham Jitdharma from CATS Academy Boston (USA) received the Gold Medal and the Special Award from Research Institute of Creative Education, along with “Germ Guard Goo.”  
  • “Ice Seperated” by Miss Chomchan Sittikij received the Gold Medal and the Special Award from World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA).  
  • “Metal Hub” by Miss Phinyada Thanyawan received the Gold Medal. 
  • “Oh my back” by Miss Pattawan Piboontham, Miss Patteera Ornpimpan, and Mr. Pitchakorn Ornpimpan awarded the Gold Medal.  
  • “O-NE CASE” by Miss Sirarin Prasitdamrong from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School, Mr. Thaninkit Prasitdamron from Patumwan Demonstration School, and Mr. Pran Udomsawangsap from Shrewsbury International School Bangkok received the Gold Medal.    
  • “WAJA” by Dr. Pornsiri Santadrob earned a Gold Medal.  
  • “Handy Dandy Mat” by Miss Passa Rerkpitakpanich, Miss Ornnitcha Piboonrattanakij, and Miss Supitcha Pornwilartsiri received the Gold Medal.  
  • “5-in-1 Page Turner” by Miss Pannaporn Tongcharoen and Miss Nitcha Witooraporn from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School, Miss Nataksaporn Apikasemsant from Assumption Convent School, and Miss Alisa Kramacheck from Samsenwittayalai School received the Silver Medal.
