Chulalongkorn’s Researcher Awarded Young Scientist 2023

The Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of H.M. the King held a press conference announcing the winners of the Outstanding Scientists and Young Scientists Awards 2023 on August 9, 2023, at Vibhavadee Ballroom C, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao. Chulalongkorn University’s Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supareak Praserthdam from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, received the Young Scientist Award 2023 for his research on “Computational Catalysis Engineering for Screening Heterogeneous Catalysts and Supporting the Research of New Researchers in Higher Education and Small and Medium-Sized Industries.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supareak Praserthdam was presented a bouquet of flowers in congratulations for the award by Ms. Bongkoch Hongsapak, Director of Division of Research Analysis and Dissemination.

The research “Computational Catalysis Engineering for Screening Heterogeneous Catalysts and Supporting the Research of New Researchers in Higher Education and Small and Medium-Sized Industries” aims to understand the catalysis phenomenon that occurs on heterogeneous catalysts, which are primary in industries, and increase its speed, stability, and selectivity. The project culminated in a public database of catalysts for all sectors to freely use and apply in their work. This knowledge will help bridge the gap in research which is due to the lack of tools for use in other universities, as well as support small and medium-sized industries to initiate their research projects without much cost.

This year marked the 41st consecutive year of the Outstanding and Young Scientist Awards. The press conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, former Prime Minister, who congratulated and presented the award plaques to the winner of the Outstanding Scientist Award 2023, Prof. Dr. Watcharin Rukkachaisirikul from Prince of Songkla University, and winners of the Young Scientist Award 2023, 3 researchers from Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University, and Kasetsart University.
