Chula Joins the 4th AUN-ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Thailand Chapter (AUN-AYCF Thailand) 

Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts joins in the 4th AUN-ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Thailand Chapter hosted by Chiang Mai University.

Chulalongkorn University, represented by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, participated in the 4th AUN-ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Thailand Chapter, hosted by Chiang Mai University from April 6 – 11, 2024.  The program included various experiential learning and cultural exposure activities, enabling students to not only observe, but also to actively engage in the cultural practices and ways of life in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The AUN-AYCF Thailand is a collaboration among five universities: Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Prince of Songkla University, Burapha University, and Chiang Mai University.  Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pattara Komkam, Head of the Music Department at Chula’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and Chair of AUN-AYCF Thailand Chapter, these institutions have consistently organized arts and cultural performances at the ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum.  Their aim is to promote creative thinking, deepen understanding, and raise awareness about art and cultural heritage, emphasizing the celebration and preservation of diverse traditional arts and performances in Thailand and the ASEAN region. 

Assoc. Prof. Prasert Rerkkriangkrai, Vice President of Chiang Mai University, presided over the opening ceremony of the grand public performance.  During the event, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, AUN Executive Director, and Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam, Chair of AUN-AYCF Thailand, provided background information about AYCF and AUN-AYCF Thailand respectively. The performance showcased various acts, including the “Ramayana: Maricha the Golden Deer” Khon Masked Dance, “The ASEAN Way” and “AUN-AYCF Thailand” Choir Songs, “Malee Ruam Jai” Harmony Fan Dance, “AYCF Memories: A Celebration of Cultures” performances, The Harmony of ASEAN, The Melody of Hope, and “The Grace of Thai Martial Arts” show, concluding with the Finale “AUN-AYCF Thailand” song. 

Executives from various universities also participated in the event, including Professor Dr. Kumkom Pornprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University; Dr. Pimonpan Lertlum, Assistant President for Cooperate Identity, Burapha University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharapol Wiboolyasarin, Deputy Director for Corporate Communications and Academic Services from the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornpawee Pumkerd, Director of Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Cultural Studies, Prince of Songkla University. 

At the event’s conclusion, Assoc. Prof. Prasert Rerkkriangkrai, Vice President of Chiang Mai University, handed over the AUN-AYCF Flag to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharapol Wiboolyasarin, who represented Mahidol University as the next host of AUN-AYCF Thailand in 2025.
