“Chula x HKUST Community Sustainability 2024” – Joining Youngsters from 2 Institutions to Boost Sustainability and Community Engagement Network

Chulalongkorn University, together with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), organized the “Chula x HKUST Community Sustainability 2024,” a collaboration between the two universities with a commitment to education and sustainability. This collaboration allows both institutions to efficiently exchange knowledge, expertise, and best practices in this field.
The “Chula x HKUST Community Sustainability 2024” was held at Chulalongkorn University and the Center of Learning Network for the Region (CLNR) – Nan between July 15-22, 2024. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Sompiboon, Acting Vice President, Chulalongkorn University, gave an opening speech. This event provided an opportunity for Chulalongkorn University students and students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to participate in sustainability activities that have a positive impact on local communities, as well as promote networking and social activities, thus enhancing understanding and skills in sustainability.

Throughout the 7 days in the program, the students learned to adapt and collaborate. They also organized an English Camp for secondary school students in Nan Province with support from the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization. The program included workshops on topics such as sustainable waste management, food sustainability, tourism in Nan Province, and the use of herbs for product creation. The ideas generated by the participants of the program will be forwarded to Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppadon Kitana, Director of CLNR, Chulalongkorn University, to further benefit the communities.

The sense of kinship and warmth found in the Chula community is priceless and a treasure worth keeping.
