Chula becomes the first LEED-certified university in Thailand, setting a model for sustainable campus development

Chulalongkorn University, through the Physical Systems Administration Office, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture and the Urban Design and Development Center (UDDC), has prepared a plan for developing a sustainable university. This initiative aims to position Chulalongkorn University as Thailand’s model university that integrates sustainable development. The development of the master plan and building design according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards marks a significant step towards creating sustainability in construction and architecture within Thai universities.

Acting President, Chulalongkorn University
LEED is a globally recognized standard for assessing and certifying buildings that are designed and constructed sustainably. It places emphasis on the efficient use of resources, reducing energy and water consumption, minimizing waste and pollution, using environmentally friendly materials, and designing for energy efficiency. LEED-compliant design not only reduces environmental impact but also promotes the health and well-being of the Chulalongkorn University community, representing an essential step towards building a sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
On this occasion, Chulalongkorn University faculty members responsible for the project presented the “Chulalongkorn University Master Plan for the Second Century: Chulalongkorn University Education Area Towards a LEED Certification Model University for Sustainable Development” to Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, Acting President of Chulalongkorn University, on September 2, 2024, at Meeting Room 211, Chamchuri 4 Building.

Chula is the place to discover one’s true individuality and the years I spent here were most enjoyable.
