Rahat Longsomboon, a student at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, received the “Royal Student Award” for the academic year 2023 in the category of university students who serve as positive role models for youth who are not only devoted to education, but also to applying knowledge and skills to develop society for the greater good.
Rahat Longsomboon stated that he felt greatly honored to have received the award this year and considered this the highest honor a student can receive. The “Royal Student Award” not only recognizes academic excellence and leadership, but also reflects the support and encouragement from their family, professors, and peers, all of whom played a crucial role in their success. This award aims to inspire them to continue doing good for society and the nation.
The “Royal Student Award” recipients were not selected based on academic performance alone, but were considered for the qualities of being good students who can apply the learned knowledge and skills to benefit society and the nation. Rahat believes that learning should lead to doing good for society, not just accumulating knowledge for oneself. Receiving this award encourages young people to realize the importance of contributing to the common good and serves as a reminder that education and self-development should also aim to benefit society.
Rahat has also received multiple awards, e.g., the Outstanding Youth of Bangkok Award in Youth Development and the Outstanding Medical Student Award for Morals and Ethics, etc., a testament to his ability and dedication in education and social development. Furthermore, Rahat has also received the Award for Bringing Fame and Recognition to the University in Administration, which reflects his leadership and efficient management. This confirms that his meaningful efforts have ultimately led to him being a recipient of the Royal Student Award.
Rahat was selected as the President of the Student Union of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, for the year 2022. Working with passion and the joy of collaborating with others are the most important inspirations, enabling him to face various challenges and obstacles. Moreover, support from colleagues is a crucial driving force in working with determination to create good things for society in the future, especially to serve as a good role model for juniors and create opportunities for the youth to receive better development.
“I’m proud of every activity I’ve been involved in, whether it’s organizing academic events, developing the structure of the Student Union of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, or working with fellow students for the benefits of society. Seeing the results of our work continue to grow and develop in subsequent years and seeing juniors who inherit and continuously develop various activities, makes me feel that the dedication and efforts so far have been meaningful and will contribute to the progress of society in the future,” Rahat reflected on his past activities.
Rahat believes that young people play a crucial role in developing society and that they must be brave enough to express their opinions, listen to others, and take action to create new things that will make society better. Additionally, having a spirit of volunteerism and participating in social activities is essential in building a more equal and just society. Bringing about change doesn’t have to be something grand; it can start with the small things we do every day. A willingness to help others and a sense of volunteerism will improve our society in the long term.
Rahat is currently practicing and pursuing specialized medicine at Srinagarin Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and will be conferred his degree as a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, on October 2 this year.
