On September 16, 2024, Prof. Dr. Suchada Sukrong, Executive Director of the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (CSII) and Director of the Center of Excellence in DNA Barcoding of Thai Medicinal Plants, was honored with the prestigious “Internationally Outstanding Inventors Award” at the Awards Ceremony hosted by the National Research Council of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation. This recognition highlights Prof. Dr. Suchada’s remarkable contributions to research and innovation on a global scale.
The award specifically acknowledges the ground-breaking innovation, AristoScan—a rapid and field-deployable CRISPR-Cas12a diagnostic kit designed for the DNA detection of poisonous plants containing aristolochic acid. Aristolochic acid is a compound known to cause nephropathy, a severe kidney disease. This innovative diagnostic tool has already garnered international acclaim, winning the silver medal at “The 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva: PalExpo” in April 2024.
The Internationally Outstanding Inventor Award Ceremony is a significant event, reflecting the continuous efforts of the National Research Council of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation in promoting and funding Thai inventions and innovations on the global stage. These initiatives are vital in enhancing the international competitiveness of Thai researchers and inventors, ensuring that Thailand remains at the forefront of scientific and technological development.
As the Executive Director of CSII, Prof. Dr. Suchada Sukrong leads by example, embodying the innovative spirit and entrepreneurial mindset that CSII instills in its students. Under her leadership, the Bachelor of Arts and Science in Integrated Innovation (BAScii) program continues to inspire students to create impactful innovations that address pressing societal challenges, furthering the mission of CSII to develop global citizens and leaders in the world of technology and innovation.
