On September 27, 2024, at the Sabbasastravicaya Building, Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, presided over the opening ceremony of the “CU Sharing for Charity: Sharing for the Children, Event #1.” This event was organized by the Environmental Research Institute for Sustainability in collaboration with several other institutes, including the Transportation Institute, Thai Studies Institute, Water Resources Research Institute, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Research Institute, Energy Research Institute, Metallurgy and Materials Science Research Institute, Social Research Institute, Asia Studies Institute, and the Faculty of Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University. The event was held in honor of His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday and showcased the collaborative efforts of various organizations to promote sharing and build a sustainable society.
The “CU Sharing for Charity: Sharing for the Children” event featured a variety of activities, including the CU Sharing Market, where donated items were sold to raise funds for six foundations: Ban Nok Kamin, The Mirror Foundation, Camillian Home for Children, Suan Kaew Foundation, Pan Kan Shop Project, and Luangta Noi Foundation. The goal was to promote sharing, improve the quality of life for children supported by these foundations, and encourage sustainability through the mindful use of resources.
Additionally, there was a special Mini-talk titled “How Second-Hand Goods Benefit Us and the World: The Issue of Fast Fashion and the #SecondhandSeptember Campaign” by Pichamas Chai-ngam, founder of the Loopers platform for quality second-hand clothing. The session was moderated by Dr. Puntita Tanwattana, a researcher from the Environmental Research Institute for Sustainability at Chulalongkorn University. Another highlight of the event was the “You Cup We Treat” activity by Chula Zero Waste, which encouraged attendees to bring their own cups to receive free drinks, promoting waste reduction at the event.
