Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the graduation ceremony for participants who completed the VELA (Vitality Enhancement and Longevity Academy) Course, Cohorts 1 and 2, at the Music Hall of the Art and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University on Monday, September 30, 2024.
The Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, and the President of Chulalongkorn University, Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, along with other university executives welcomed Her Royal Highness upon her arrival at the venue.
During the event, Prof. Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai presented a report, followed by Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, who gave an account of the VELA course. Prof. Dr. Sathirakorn Pongpanich, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs, then introduced the 149 graduates of Cohorts 1 and 2, who received their certificates from Her Royal Highness. Sixteen individuals were also awarded the university’s royal insignia and the VELA insignia in recognition of their charitable donations, and 27 benefactors were honored with the VELA insignia.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness posed for a commemorative photograph with the course administrators, university executives, and the graduates.
With its focus on lifelong learning and sustainable development, Chulalongkorn University offers the opportunity for students and the general public to learn while also working. The knowledge gained from their work experience or formal and informal training can be recorded in a credit bank system.
The VELA program is a short-term course for high-level executives in the health and medical sectors, aimed at enhancing their knowledge. It aligns with the university’s policies on research and innovation, covering areas such as science, technology, and advanced medical and public health, which are crucial for personal and organizational development and for Thailand’s societal and economic growth. This is also essential for establishing Thailand as a sustainable Medical Hub. The program promotes the exchange of knowledge and fosters relationships among leaders in both public and private sectors, contributing to the creation of a national center of excellence or a community of well-being.
The outcome of the VELA program includes the acquisition of health and medical knowledge and the exchange of experiences among participants under the guidance of experts. This fosters the integration of creativity and in-depth knowledge to create medical innovations and supports the growth of the health business industry, eventually leading to the establishment of a national Healthy Longevity Center.
