Chula Organizes ‘Phra Sadet Doei Dan Chon: The Culture of Boat Songs in Thai Literature and Arts’ Academic Conference

The event was held on October 18, 2024, at the 15th-floor conference room of the Borommaratchakumari Building, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. It was organized to honor the auspicious occasion of the 72nd birthday of His Majesty the King, as well as to preserve, promote, and advance the Thai literary and cultural arts. The conference featured a ceremony to present awards for the national high school poetry competition in the Kap He (Traditional Thai poetic chant) style.

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, presided over the opening ceremony and presented the poetry competition awards, while Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, delivered the opening remarks.

The conference also featured keynote speakers, including Professor Emeritus Dr. Cholada Ruengruglikit and Dr. Pairoj Thongkamsuk, Fellows of the Office of the Royal Society in the Fine Arts Division. Professors and students from the Department of Thai Language, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, composed and recited a royal praise poem. The Thai Language Learning Group from Taweethapisek School performed the award-winning Kap He recitation. Additionally, the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University kindly provided the venue for the event, and the Sunthorn Phu Institute offered its support for the poetry competition activities.

The sense of kinship and warmth found in the Chula community is priceless and a treasure worth keeping.
