Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, 29 October 2024, Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, welcomed members of the media and expressed his pleasure in hosting the event, introducing the university’s “Chula Power of Togetherness” policy. This approach places emphasis on holistic growth for Chulalongkorn University, centered around its students. The policy outlines various growth aspects: international expansion towards becoming a Global-Thai University, social impact development to become The Most Admired University, internal growth to foster an organization of talented and virtuous people, and integrated growth as a hub for collaboration with external organizations and strong alumni nationwide. Intellectual growth is also emphasized, with a focus on nurturing students and graduates into knowledgeable, skilled, and internationally recognized leaders.
He also shared his vision to propel Chulalongkorn University towards becoming an “AI University,” aiming to foster artificial intelligence advancements in line with the demands of a digital society and equip students with essential AI knowledge and skills.
“When steering the university towards becoming an AI University, I see AI as a complementary component, not the core, of education. It’s important to understand that AI can replace some jobs, but ‘people’ must remain at the center of work alongside AI to maximize development benefits,” he remarked.
Professor Dr. Wilert further also discussed his upcoming role as President of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT), starting January 1, 2025. He emphasized that universities in Thailand are not in competition with each other but rather work together to elevate the quality of education nationally. While university rankings are based on criteria from various ranking organizations, the CUPT strategy is to unify efforts to strengthen education in Thailand and attract international students, benefiting the country as a whole.
He also noted that Chulalongkorn University will partner with global organizations and conduct research to project future educational and world trends, aiming to enhance the analytical skills of the public. “When society faces challenges, Chulalongkorn has the answers,” he added, reaffirming the university’s commitment to becoming a center of knowledge and innovation that makes a positive impact on society, meeting both national and global needs, with students as the focal point. The university is also dedicated to fostering creative, adaptable leaders ready for all future changes.
Following the vision presentation, the President and Chulalongkorn’s leadership team engaged in discussions with the media on the university’s policies and advancements across various fields. The media interviewed the President and the executives, showing great interest.
The event, titled “Chula Invites the Media for Afternoon Tea,” highlighted Chulalongkorn’s commitment to driving the university to the forefront of innovation and artificial intelligence and strengthening ties with the media. This collaboration aims to promote Chulalongkorn’s achievements and progress to the public.
