The Chulalongkorn University Office of Art and Culture, in collaboration with the South Asian Studies Center of the Chulalongkorn University Institute of Asian Studies and Marmara University, Turkey, organized the Thailand-Türkiye Friendship Concert titled “Bygone Melodies for a Harmonious Future: An Exploration of Folk Melodies in Classical Music” on November 14, 2024, at the Music Auditorium, Arts and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, with Her Excellency Mrs. Serap Ersoy, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Thailand, and her delegation in attendance.
The performance featured traditional instruments such as the Bağlama and Iklığ, played by Turkish musicians alongside the Chulalongkorn University Chamber Ensemble, creating a cultural exchange through music. The concert aims to strengthen bilateral relations through artistic and cultural activities and celebrate the friendship between the two nations.
Additionally, on November 12, 2024, a special lecture titled “Turkish Folk Music: Instruments, Aesthetics, and Social-Cultural Context” was held, along with a workshop on Introduction to Turkish Bağlama led by three experts from Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey: Prof. Dr. Sibel Coban, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Ozdemir, and Prof. Dr. Erhan Dogan.
This event was part of the Creative Area Strategy for Learning project, overseen by Associate Professor Dr. Yootthana Chuppunnarat, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, aimed at providing students with opportunities to demonstrate their professional skills and enhancing their international experience in the arts and culture.
